I’m back down in Salcombe, Devon with the boys from K-Tec Electrical Solutions for a quick holiday smart home update on a project that’s genuinely one of the best I’ve seen. This isn’t a full walkthrough—more of a tech tour—because the real story here is how well the builder and trades have adopted the technology and worked with us, not against us. From the exterior spec (those bronze windows) to the way the in-wall back boxes and finishing details have been handled, the whole job is absolutely off the charts. We jump into the plant/rack room to look at the backbone of the system: structured wiring, video distribution, a serious amount of motion sensors, and two Future Automation lighting panels—one loaded with DMX modules. The big talking point is the Aztec Therm heated ceiling system, which is the first time I’ve integrated heating ceilings into Control4 on a project like this. I also show you the documentation and panel locations, explain why we had to add more lighting modules (moving to RGBW and the channel count exploding), and then we head down to the basement bedrooms and cinema. You’ll see Beadmaster back boxes keeping everything crisp and square, plus the cinema space that’s getting one of the new Sony projectors, and finally the entrance setup with Control4 touchscreens, intercom, and a Chime doorbell with a DS2 intercom planned at the gate.
