I’m back down in Salcombe, Devon with my good mate Kelvin from K-Tec Electrical for a proper progress update on one of the most detailed Control4 smart home projects I’ve been involved with. We’ve been on this one for about two years, and even though it looks “finished”, it’s very much in that pre-second-fix / check-the-details phase. Today is all about regular site visits: making sure the right backboxes are in (doorbell, gate, alarm keypad, touchscreens), checking cut-outs are neat, cables are labelled, and that our second fix and commissioning goes smooth. We walk through key areas of the house—entrance hall touchscreens/keypads, lounge lighting (loads of circuits, lamping sockets, and feature RGBW LED shadow gaps around the fireplace build), dining and kitchen details (including Control4 backbox prep and Beadmaster finishes), plus outdoor audio/CCTV/motion coverage on the patio. The standout tech piece is the ASTECtherm heated ceiling system: the ceilings are effectively the radiators, powered via 36V supplies and controlled using Heatmiser stats with air probes. I also show how we keep things organised with proper lighting schedules and pre-labelled second-fix kit, because details matter—and partnerships like this make the whole job better.
