I’m back down in Cornwall, right near Land’s End, with Alan from AH Electrical to get this Control4 smart home over the line: rack install, second fix, and a clean handover to the client. This one’s a new build and the big win here is that the rack was built and prepped off-site (Alan and Andy smashed it), so when we arrive it’s not chaos—it’s essentially plug-and-play into the termination box, then commission and test properly. In the video I walk you through how I like to do testing and labelling for maximum efficiency. I pre-label before I even start testing, then I verify each run (auto test at 1Gbit, check length, save results) and only then do I update labels and patch leads. It sounds minor, but it stops you stressing and keeps everything methodical—especially when you’ve got uplinks, Wi-Fi, CCTV pre-wire, video distribution, and multiple audio zones all landing in the same place. By the end we’ve fired the rack up, brought the network to life, and commissioned four zones of audio, four zones of video, Wi-Fi throughout the house, plus the infrastructure for CCTV and video intercom. Proper job—beautiful install, and Alan made my life very, very easy.
