About This Video

In this AOS Academy tutorial I’m setting up a Control4 TV backbox properly for video distribution, so when we come back for 2nd fix it’s clean, labelled, and stress-free. I’m working on TV position 6, and I walk through exactly what’s going where: the light blue Cat6a is my HDBT/video distribution run, the orange Cat6 is automation (spares behind the TV), and the red Cat6 is data. I also explain the layout—where the video distribution balun lives (in the backbox), where the EA-1 lives, and why I still keep the coax running straight through to the TV. The big takeaway is prep: remove slack where you can, cut to sensible lengths, and label everything (A6 / TV6 / E06) so you’re not guessing later. I show my method for terminating shielded Cat6a (S/FTP) with proper foil/drain wire handling, plus my preferred RJ45 method using Simply45 connectors and crimper—no messing about with screwdrivers, just fingers, order, and consistency. By the end, the cables are terminated, labelled, and ready to be tested, so when the TV goes on it’s just final connections and you’re done.
