In this video I’m up at our York HQ with Alan from AH Electrical, one of our AOS Partners, and we sit down for a quick testimonial after getting stuck into a proper smart home rack build. Alan’s based down in central Cornwall and he’s been working with us on a larger Control4 project—so while he was here to build the 22U rack, we used the time to talk through what it’s been like since he completed our classroom training around 12 months ago. We get into the real-world side of it: that “skill fade” you can feel when you’ve done the training but only had one project under your belt, and how coming into the lab gives you the hands-on time to put everything into practice. Alan talks about how we’ve supported the project remotely—phone calls, WhatsApp, emails—and how the design process often takes multiple drafts to land exactly what the client wants. The big takeaway is peace of mind: building the rack in a controlled environment with spares and the right kit means fewer site issues, less wasted time on install, and a better end result for the client.
