About This Video

In this video I’m back in the rack with our AOS partner, Alan from AH Electrical, walking through a 22u Control4 rack build for a smart home project down in Cornwall. Alan’s up at AOS HQ with me and we go component-by-component so you can see exactly what’s gone into the system before it heads to site. The rack is currently on soak test, and once we’re happy it’s solid, it’ll be travelling down in a few weeks. We cover the key building blocks: a Control4 CORE 3 as the brains, an Araknis switch handling the network (plus temperature monitoring so we can be alerted if things get hot), and proper ventilation with mesh vents to create that chimney effect. Power is handled with an ATEN eco PDU for remote and per-outlet control, backed up by an APC UPS to keep everything protected and running through power issues. For AV distribution, we’ve got an AVPro video matrix for sources like Sky/Apple TV/Roku, a Triad audio matrix for whole-home audio, a Triad sub amp for an on-wall sub, and an Anthem AVR that I use on pretty much all our projects to keep audio and video working together seamlessly. The big takeaway: this rack is built to be reliable now, and expandable later for things like CCTV, in-wall tablets, and lighting control.
