About This Video

Hey friends—this video is a real, busy half-day in my life as a single millennial foster mom in Los Angeles. I’m up around 6:15am (quietly, because my little foster baby is literally on my hip), and I walk you through our early morning routine while still protecting his privacy. I don’t show his face, I don’t share court case details or anything about bio parents, but I do share all the in-between stuff that makes foster mom life what it is. I show what I pack for daycare lunch (yes, my “little potato boy” eats real food like brisket, collard greens, and potato salad) plus a couple of snacks. Then it’s the street-sweeping scramble, a quick Starbucks run, and waiting in the parking lot until daycare opens. I also talk about how daycare pickup times and social worker visits can totally shape my workday—especially because visits tend to land smack in the middle of the day and have to happen at my apartment. After drop-off, I’m juggling my writing/program projects and touring potential new places to live—thinking ahead about space, budget, and what makes sense for fostering (like having a second bedroom). It’s not glamorous, but it’s real life, one week at a time.
