This month I did a full breakdown of how much I made as a software engineer, and more importantly, where it came from. I’ve noticed you guys really like the “money from coding” videos, so I wanted to give you a realistic glimpse into what a month can look like once you’ve stacked experience and built a few side income streams. I also want to be super clear: none of this happened overnight. I did a 3-year computer science degree, started out as an intern not even knowing how to debug properly, and I’ve now got close to 7 years of corporate experience and have switched four jobs while building stuff on the side. The breakdown includes getting monetized on YouTube (about $40 AdSense even though monetization started on the 5th), my main side hustle with APIs on RapidAPI (about $570), and online courses across platforms (Udemy $310 during Black Friday, Skillshare $130, Payhip $70). My main income is still my senior software engineer salary (around $3,200 after tax), plus blogging (~$200 from Medium and affiliates). I also share my investing results: my S&P 500 ETF was up about 2% this month (~$500 unrealized). Total for the month: about $5,500—and my biggest takeaway is that perseverance and discipline beat motivation every time.
