About This Video

I was literally at the salon getting my hair done when I got a notification that a surprise box of plants had been delivered—so of course I had to pivot and film an unboxing I wasn’t even planning to do. This haul is from Greenspaces.id (based in Indonesia), and the shipment came through Plant Stop USA as the broker. I’ll be honest: one of my ongoing complaints with Plant Stop is I don’t always get clear shipping notifications, so I didn’t know what day this box shipped or how long the plants were sitting in transit—but I still wanted to get them opened ASAP so they weren’t stuck in the box any longer than necessary. In this video I unbox six plants and give you my real first impressions, plus what I’m looking for right away (root condition, dampness of the moss, leaf damage, and signs of active growth). We go through an Aglaonema ‘Emerald’ (my first time importing an aglaonema—roots looked pristine), a baby Anthurium King of Spades (I actually prefer importing smaller anthuriums because the thicker mature roots rot more easily for me), a variegated Syngonium White Butterfly (these ship well but love to drop leaves), and a massive Hoya latifolia ‘outer variegated’ round leaf that might finally convert me into a big-leaf hoya person. I also unbox an Anthurium Silver Blush “white mint variegated” (subtle variegation so far, but it’s a baby), and I start setting up for the big Monstera reveal at the end. Throughout, I’m rehydrating roots immediately in water and sharing my exact rehab cues—like how anthurium rot turns translucent and mushy—and how I reuse sphagnum moss by boiling it for at least 10 minutes.
