About This Video

Every spring I get that itch to “edit” my collection, and this year’s Spring Plant Purge is me being super honest about which houseplants aren’t making the cut—and why. Some of these are repeat offenders from past purge lists, and some are newer plants that I’m already realizing don’t fit my space, my lifestyle, or my current plant tastes. For me, purging isn’t about hating a plant; it’s about keeping a collection that feels fun instead of feeling like constant maintenance. In this video I go through my for-sure purge list and my maybe list. I’m saying goodbye to plants that are too finicky (looking at you, certain anthuriums), plants I’ve simply grown out of (like my philodendron cordatum), and plants that are gorgeous but totally impractical in my home (my philodendron plowmanii is a full-on space hog). I also talk through situations like keeping the “baby” but letting the “mama” plant go (my Red Anderson), dealing with cyclical leaf kill-off (my green maranta), and why you should never feel obligated to keep a gifted plant if it’s not working for you. The big takeaway: your collection should serve you, not stress you out.
