In this Repot & Chat, I’m hanging out with three of my Hoyas—Hoya wayetii, Hoya curtisii, and my Hoya linearis—while I do some much-needed pot tweaks and talk through what’s been going on behind the scenes. I always say Hoyas don’t need repotting very often (they actually like to be a little snug), so none of these are emergency “oh my gosh it’s exploding out of the pot” situations. For me, this was more about practicality: my wayetii has been drying out way too fast in a flimsy 3-inch pot (like, I can’t go past every four days), so I sized up just one inch into a sturdier clear 4-inch pot using my chunky epiphyte mix. My curtisii repot is all about diagnosis and better watering. I’ve been seeing more yellowing leaves and slower growth, and since it wasn’t in a clear pot, I couldn’t really tell how fast it was drying. Once I got it out, it wasn’t as rootbound as I expected, but I still moved it into a clear pot so I can keep a closer eye and adjust my schedule. Then we get into the linearis—flowers kicking off (podunkles!), plus a whole jar of water props I’m trying to add back in to make the plant look fuller and bushier. It’s a bit of a hot mess repot day, but I share the real process, the hiccups, and how I make decisions as I go—because that’s real-life plant care.
