About This Video

Aloha friends—today I’m doing a full Anthurium collection update because my plants are having a full-on “Anthurium awakening.” After most of the summer being basically stalled (with a few exceptions), a bunch of my Anthuriums suddenly started pushing new growth, and I’m honestly so relieved. It’s been a little over a year since I’ve owned almost all of these, so I’m walking through what’s thriving, what’s struggling, and what I think is actually making the difference. A big theme in this update is repot recovery. Most of my Anthuriums got repotted in the spring, and I really think a lot of them paused leaf production to focus on rebuilding and spreading roots first. I compare plants that weren’t repotted (and kept growing) versus ones that were repotted and are only now waking back up. I also talk through my ongoing experiment with substrate—epiphyte mix vs my forest floor mix—because I’m learning that consistent moisture is a huge secret to keeping Anthuriums looking good, even though they’re epiphytic. I also get real about the problem children: the ones giving me janky leaves, yellowing, or refusing to grow. And I share what I do when an Anthurium turns into a stump—sphagnum moss, a cloche, and cabinet time—plus why LECA hasn’t been my best route for Anthuriums (at least so far).
