I’m in Taitung (yes, it’s a city and a county) for my last Taiwan adventure vlog, and I decided the best way to slow travel the east coast was on an electric Gogoro scooter. Renting was honestly a pretty smooth process—there are tons of rental shops right by the train station—and since I’m solo, a scooter made way more sense than an expensive car rental I can’t split with anyone. I also talk through the practical stuff: I used my passport + international driver permit, picked a smaller Gogoro with one battery (so you do have to plan your route around battery swap stations), and I show the trunk space, key card, phone holder, and how the whole thing works. Then it’s basically a windy, sometimes drizzly coastal ride to a bunch of Taitung stops: Duoliang Railway Station, Jialulan’s indigenous art installations, and the Dulan Sugar Factory area (which was kinda dead when I went, but still a cool peek at the region). I also share my very real scooter-life lessons—full-face helmet > half helmet, wear pants because the humidity + wind + dirt is not it, and bring something actually warm (my puffer jacket saved me). We end at Sanxiantai (dragon bridge vibes, but under construction), snack on Donghe buns, and I squeeze in a hot spring stop + hot spring eggs because if I’m cold and windblown, I’m at least going to earn my soak.
