So, in case the boxes behind me didn’t give it away… I’m moving. My wife and I sold our Toronto-area house, and we’re heading to a bigger place with more room to grow (and a bigger yard for the dog). In this video I walk through the smart home tech I’ve built up over the last five-plus years, what I’m allowed to take with us, what has to stay behind because of the sale, and what I’m thinking of replacing everything with once we land in the new place. I break it down by category: smart locks (my long history with August, and why the auto-unlock on my current one has been unreliable), smart lighting (I love Philips Hue, but the cost is brutal—so I’m seriously considering Govee to light a bigger home without going broke), and safety (I still think Nest Protect is incredible, but Google discontinued it, so I ordered the First Alert combo units as a replacement). I also get into cameras—why my Wyze outdoor cams have been pretty lackluster over time, and why I’m tempted to go all-in on wired Nest cameras even though the prices are wild.
