This is my 1-week-later review of Apple’s MacBook Neo, and I’m just going to say it the same way I did in the video: I genuinely think this is the Mac that 90+% of people should buy if they’re shopping in this price point. I bought the base model with my own money on release day, then used it as my daily machine coming from a higher-spec MacBook Air. In this review I break down the specs and pricing ($599 USD / $799 CAD for the base), the color options (I went indigo), and what you actually give up to hit that “most affordable MacBook ever” headline. The big surprise: Apple didn’t cheap out on the display. You’re still getting a Liquid Retina panel with 500 nits of brightness, and in day-to-day use it feels every bit as good as a MacBook Air—just with chunkier bezels and no notch. Performance-wise, the Neo runs an A18 Pro (not an M-series chip), and with only 8GB of RAM it still handled everything I threw at it: browsing, email, docs, and even a full 4K edit in Final Cut Pro. I also cover the real trade-offs: no backlit keyboard, an older-style trackpad, side-firing speakers, no MagSafe, and the base 256GB storage. But with excellent battery life (I’m seeing 8–9 hours typical) and a super well-built, more repairable design, I think the Neo is going to be a massive hit—especially for students, writers, and anyone upgrading from older Intel Macs.
