I’ve owned several generations of the August Smart Lock, and overall I’ve had a good experience with them over the years. The big downside for me is that the auto-unlock on my latest one has been unreliable, and it’s also not the easiest thing to uninstall and move to a new place.
Pros
- +Secure, tamper-resistant smart lock experience
- +I’ve generally had good long-term ownership across multiple generations
Cons
- -Auto-unlock can be slow/unreliable (30–45 seconds in my case)
- -Not as easy to install/remove as simpler smart home gear
