Hi guys! In this Rank & Rate instalment (a series created by Jess over at Colouring Bumblebee), I’m ranking and rating my Hanna Karlzon colouring books—and honestly, out of the three Rank & Rates I’ve done so far, this one was definitely the hardest. I own 12 of Hanna’s books, and I’m super aware that my order is totally “what I’m compelled to colour right now,” not a statement of what’s objectively best. Even the books at the bottom are still gorgeous—my mood (and the season!) can change everything. I talk you through why certain books sit lower for me at the moment (like Daydreams, where the bolder black line art pulls me in less than her newer, subtler linework), and why some books have less versatility (Godjul is stunning, but it’s very winter/Christmas). For each book I share my top five favourite pages, the kinds of colour palettes I’m imagining (bright florals, jewel tones, soft pastel backgrounds, metallic watercolour details), and the things that sometimes trip me up—like big backgrounds and, yes, water (you know I hate colouring water!). I also show a couple of completed pages and WIPs, including how I use things like washi tape for crisp borders, soft pastels for backgrounds, and even ChatGPT to help me build a colour palette when I want to keep things cohesive.
