What is the Halloween Bingo Prompts challenge in the Cute Comfy Cozy group?

Instead of doing four weekly prompts, we’re doing a Halloween bingo board with 16 different prompts. You can complete them across, down, diagonally—or if you’re like me and a bit crazy, you can try and do all 16. The board is in the Cute Comfy Cozy Facebook group if you want to join in.

In this public livestream I’m tackling the “Pumpkin” prompt. Steve randomly chose that one for me, so I went with it. I also show my earlier prompt “Costume” that I did in Spooky Times by DD Plums.

What colouring book are you using for the pumpkin prompt?

I’m colouring in Autumn Hygge by Coloring Book Cafe for this prompt. It’s such a cosy autumnal page and it suits the Halloween bingo vibe really well. I start with the sky and clouds, then move into the pumpkins and characters.

Did you really use ChatGPT to pick a colour palette for colouring?

Yes, I went on ChatGPT for colour inspiration, just to give me a starting point. But I don’t follow it blindly—I tweak it when it doesn’t make sense (like the bear’s pumpkin top being brown, or random yellow choices). It’s more of a jumping-off point than a strict rule.

What marker colours did you use for the sky, clouds, and pumpkins?

For the clouds I used MG020, and for the sky I used MG030. My pumpkin base colour was YR8 (I swear it’s going to run out by the end of pumpkin season), and I used YR180 for the darker details like the eyes and shadow areas. Then I used Y4 for the glowing inside sections.

How do you colour big areas with alcohol markers without it looking streaky?

For big areas like the sky or pumpkins, I swap to the chisel tip and try to keep the same angle so it lays smoother. I also work fairly quickly so the ink stays wet and blends into itself—otherwise you get that scratchy, patchy look. Some markers soften up as you use them, too.

Are you changing the chick to be more Halloween-themed?

Accepted Answer

Yes, because the chick didn’t feel Halloweeny enough to me, especially with the AI palette suggesting a “zombie chick.” I talk about adding little Frankenstein-style bolts and some stitched marks to make it more spooky-cute. I might use an acrylic or metallic marker for the bolts since I’ve already coloured behind it.

When do you do shading and details on a colouring page?

Accepted Answer

I like to do all my shadows last because it’s really satisfying to me. In this stream I’m mostly base-coating the main elements first (sky, pumpkins, rabbit, snail, grass). Then I come back later for shading, texture, and all the finishing touches.
