In this livestream I make a start in Kanoko Egusa’s “Leon’s Journey” (Pt.1), using my Prismacolor Premier pencils just like Sue requested—because honestly, you don’t need to tell me twice to use Prismas. I quickly show you the references I’ve picked so I can keep the animals consistent throughout the whole book: Leon as a gorgeous tabby with green eyes (not a ginger tom like everyone else!), Lily as a ragdoll, the pups as two labs, and Baron as a great horned owl. Then I zoom into the little vignette I chose for tonight and start with the flowers first: pink-tipped daisies, pale pink lily of the valley, and fresh spring greens. I talk you through the exact pencil colours I’m using (for the daisy centres, the soft greens, and the pink tips), plus a tiny touch of very light grey for gentle shadows on the white petals. The Prismas are behaving beautifully on this paper with barely any pressure, and I keep the greens bright because I want that spring feel. I also admit the bit I’m most nervous about—cat fur—because I love colouring animals but I hate fur… so we ease in by doing Leon’s eyes first and then start mapping out the darker markings. It’s a cosy, chatty stream with lots of community catch-up, book talk, and a calm colouring pace.
