In this episode of my “Pharmacist Reviews Cantu” series, I’m demystifying the Cantu Coconut Curling Cream ingredients one by one—so you actually understand what’s in the jar before you put it on your hair. Yes, I said it: they put cooking oil in your curling cream. Canola oil—the same oil you could use to fry plantains, chips, and chicken—is the second ingredient, and I know that sounds crazy at first. But don’t be frightened. As a board-certified pharmacist, I break down why canola oil is not automatically a “bad” ingredient just because it’s common and not fancy. Canola oil is rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and it contains vitamin E, which can support softness and shine. It’s also an emollient, meaning it helps soften the hair shaft, smooth the hair, reduce frizz, and improve manageability—especially helpful for my own 4C low-porosity hair as I test this product and give my final opinion as the series continues.
