About This Video

It was one of those “I slept in because I was really tired” Seoul days, but once I started walking (only 10–15 minutes) from my Airbnb to Gwangjang Market (광장시장), I knew I was going to eat a lot. This video is basically my full Gwangjang food hunt—what I tried, what I liked, and what I’d skip. I started with a kimchi bao because it’s hot inside, the kimchi is crunchy, and it’s just really yummy. I also tried mung bean pancake (with pork meat inside), and my first-ever Korean hot dog—sweet with cinnamon sugar, but honestly very oily because everything is fried in literal oil. The highlight for me was the seafood area: I went on a mission for raw soy-marinated crab and ended up ordering both the marinated crab and a set of marinated prawns. The prawns were juicy, slimy (in a good, interesting way), and super soy-marinated, and the prawn head had so much umami. The crab was really soft and jelly-like— you bite and suck the meat out—and it was fresh with zero complaints. Price-wise, Gwangjang was way cheaper than the other place I tried before, and the auntie was so nice, taught me how to eat it, and even gave free banchan (and a bit of octopus) to go with the rice. After stuffing myself with custard bungeoppang too, I walked it off toward Dongdaemun and ended the day happy and very full.
