About This Video

Gaming on mouse and keyboard can feel like an ongoing journey, and in this video I tested Akko’s Monster Shark glass gaming mousepad to see if it actually gives you that comfort + competitive edge. It’s a 9H tempered glass pad in a roughly 20 x 16 inch (500 x 400mm) size, and the first thing I noticed was the finish: frosted and smooth, but not that glossy “air hockey table” vibe. Akko says it has an anti-fingerprint coating, and yeah… I still managed to leave a couple grubby marks on it (leave it to me), but they weren’t super visible unless I went looking. Performance-wise, I tried it with a number of mice (laser and optical), and tracking felt solid with precise control. The rounded edges are a nice touch for comfort and to avoid sharp corner gashes, and the bottom feet actually keep it planted. The one tradeoff I ran into: with my Logitech MX Anywhere (more of a productivity mouse), there’s a louder sliding noise than you’d get on cloth or even a bare desk—noticeable, but not a dealbreaker. Overall, after finally trying a glass pad, I honestly don’t think I want to go back to gaming on a bare desk. Just remember: it’s strong, but it’s still thin tempered glass—don’t treat it like it’s indestructible and you’ll be fine.
