About This Video

My latest daily keyboard was definitely due for a swap, so I jumped on the TKD Cycle 8—and I’m more excited than I’ve been in a minute. Back when the Cycle 7 dropped, we were in that budget-premium “renaissance” era (Neo 65 debut vibes), but I never got to actually own one. The Cycle 8 brings it back around with a full TKL layout, clean case design, and that super handy ball-catch system that’s basically becoming the new standard. My unit is the “Acorn” brown, and yeah… I think this is my first brown keyboard. Coating is consistent, engravings are precise, and the weights are straight up attractive. In this video I’m reviewing the Rakka Hall Effect (HE) PCB version, because the real question is whether this is the most capable, stylish gaming TKL without giving up enthusiast custom keyboard vibes. The Rakka configurator is extremely responsive—rapid trigger, dynamic reset down to the millimeter, and adjustable actuation are all here, and it’s easily one of the most stable HE software experiences I’ve used so far. Sound-wise, HE is still “unique” (not bad, not stellar), but the Cycle 8 itself is built different: no-foam acoustics are balanced, gasket beans can get hella bouncy, and with the regular wired hotswap PCB + HMX Gravel, it just sounds amazing. If you bought the HE version and you’re wondering if you made the right call… more than likely, you did.
