I've been there, having experienced burnout (3:29). I'm not here to solve your problems, but to share the tools that help me maintain my mental energy to be able to fight the battles life throws at me (2:51). This video summarizes my entire approach to mental health, based on two core tools: 1. Break Everything Down into Small Chunks (6:02) Overwhelm happens when the problems and to-dos feel too big (5:24). The solution is to break them down into small, digestible steps to build habits: The Saving Example (6:25): Saving 5,000€ a month is impossible; saving 30€ a month is doable. The Habit Goal (7:15): Start with five pushups a day. The goal is not the task itself, but creating the habit so that the action becomes an automatic part of your daily life (like brushing your teeth) (12:16). Decluttering (10:59): Dedicating 10 minutes every day to sort notes or emails (The one-page inbox rule) prevents huge, overwhelming pile-ups. 2. Intentional Brain Resets (7:51) You need efficient breaks where you can switch off your brain and return to your work with a new perspective: Immersive Hobbies (8:44): Martial arts requires you to be 100% present to avoid injury, effectively forcing a mental reset. The Quick Fix (15:12): Retro gaming on a handheld is my perfect tool because it gets me away from the freelancer's constant work notifications (14:44) and allows me to dive into a story for just 5-10 minutes before returning to work refreshed (15:39). This approach is about maintaining your body and your mental health so that you don't break down (19:03). ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 0:00 - Still sick: summary of my mental health tools 1:01 - The reality: Life is hard (rent, economy, freelancing, negativity) 2:51 - The goal: Maintaining mental energy to tackle problems 3:29 - My history with burnout and therapy 4:52 - Dealing with mental health is about resetting and decluttering 6:02 - Tool 1: Break everything down (The saving money analogy) 7:15 - How to build a habit with small daily chunks (The pushup analogy) 8:05 - The importance of finding an activity that resets your brain 8:44 - The martial arts caveat: It forces you to be present 9:15 - The need to break down two-hour activities into digestible chunks 11:47 - The goal: Creating habits like brushing your teeth 14:44 - The freelancer's problem (constant work mode on the phone) 15:12 - Tool 2: Retro gaming for a 5-10 minute switch-off 16:53 - Summary: Break tasks down and find enjoyable ways to switch off 18:08 - Warning to friends: Do not work yourself to burnout 19:09 - Final thoughts 19:41 - Outro ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
