While driving on a country road yesterday, my wife and I spotted a raven sitting in an emergency bay that clearly couldn't fly. Recognizing it was in danger of wandering into traffic—or worse, causing an accident—we safely turned around to see if we could help. This video is the story of that rescue. With some quick thinking, a laundry basket, and a car windshield shade, we were able to safely transport the bird to a local wildlife rescue center. The specialist explained that this happens more often than we think: birds often don't see the fences built along highways and fly into them, leaving them concussed and vulnerable. It was an eye-opening experience to see the rescue center firsthand—a place filled with ravens, squirrels, and other wildlife all getting a second chance. I wanted to share this story because it reminded me that while we can't save the world, we can sometimes change the world for one creature. Always prioritize safety for yourself and others first, but if you ever see an opportunity to help an animal in need, I hope this encourages you to take it.
