Contact me via email ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ My channel often covers new tech and gear, which means I, too, contribute to the Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS) impulse (1:13). However, this video is a reflection on why we need to stop thinking that new automatically means better, and start valuing and utilizing the amazing items we already own. I use my dog Woody's old, broken toy, Knispel (0:00), which holds sentimental value, to illustrate why repairing and appreciating what you have is important. The "Buy New" Trap (2:07): The idea for this video came from a viewer who suggested I sell my two perfectly working Anbernic retro handhelds (RG35XX Plus and RG405V) to buy one "better" device (2:27). The Flaw in the Logic (7:27): While selling and buying new is a "valid solution," it creates unnecessary waste, shipping costs, and financial loss. Since both handhelds "work perfectly well" (8:04), there is no reasonable financial or practical justification to replace them. The Phone Problem (4:04): Just because the Samsung Fold 7 exists, it doesn't mean my Fold 5 is bad. The relentless upgrade cycle makes us forget the capabilities of our current devices. Assessing What You Already Have (5:12): Before buying new gear—whether it's a camera for a YouTube channel or an action camera (8:37)—we need to pause and ask: "Is what I have at home good enough?" The iPhone Camera: Most people have an amazing, high-quality camera right in their pocket (5:37). You proved this by filming an entire back review with your phone, and the results were great (9:07). Sentimental Value & Joy (6:11): Woody prefers the crinkly sound of an old plastic bottle (10:48) or the old, smelly toy (6:37). The joy comes from use and connection, not newness. The take away: I encourage you to assess the items you already own before splurging on something new (10:11). If you still want the new item, go for it—but only after appreciating the value of your current gear. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 0:00 - Introduction: The sentimental value of Knispel (dog toy) 1:13 - The role of tech reviewers in fueling GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) 2:07 - The comment suggesting I sell two devices to buy one new one 3:17 - The goal of repairing Knispel (using what you have) 4:04 - The Fold 5 vs. Fold 7 analogy 5:12 - We forget the amazing items we have at home 5:37 - Ignoring the great camera we already own (our phones) 7:27 - Why selling old, working devices is wasteful and expensive 8:37 - My desire to buy a new action camera vs. using my phone 10:11 - The importance of assessing if your current gear is "good enough" 11:35 - Conclusion: Old vs. New ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
