We witnessed someone mistreating their dog while heavily intoxicated, and as much as we wanted to de-escalate, the situation quickly turned threatening. In this video, I talk about why I’m incredibly grateful for my martial arts training—not because I wanted to fight, but because of the mental clarity it provided during a massive adrenaline spike. I dive into the concept of being "pressure tested." Having experience in Muay Thai, boxing, and BJJ sparring, I noticed that instead of going blind with fear, I was able to maintain distance management, check for hidden items in the person's pockets, and keep a clear exit strategy in mind. I discuss how staying in shape and having a solid baseline of cardio reduces the "anxiety sector" of your brain during a crisis, allowing you to focus on de-escalation rather than panic. The goal of training isn't to be a "tough guy" or a professional fighter. It’s about giving your body the physical capability to handle the "fight or flight" response—knowing you have the cardio to run away or the strength to push someone back if necessary. Whether you like martial arts or just prefer a regular gym routine, taking care of your body is the best way to prepare your mind for the unexpected. I'm relieved everyone is safe, and I hope this story encourages you to find your own way to stay "pressure tested." ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 00:00 - A Dangerous Encounter 01:34 - Adrenaline & Awareness 02:54 - Past Lessons in Stress 03:42 - Managing the Distance 05:46 - Fitness vs. Fear 07:13 - My Defensive Strategy 09:19 - Why We Run Away 11:32 - The Value of Sparring 13:03 - Reclaiming Your Calm ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
