Contact me via email ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ I just finished watching Predator: Badlands on Disney Plus, and as a huge fan of the Alien and Predator universes, I have some complicated feelings. While I’ve enjoyed everything from the original 80s classics to the recent success of Prey, I’m starting to notice a trend in how these franchises are being handled. Much like the recent direction of Alien: Earth, Badlands seems intent on humanizing our favorite space hunters, giving them weaknesses, sidekicks, and even comedic relief that makes them feel less like "stone-cold killers" and more like superheroes. In this review, I dive into the parallels between the new Predator protagonist and The Mandalorian, including the introduction of "sidekicks" that feel a bit too reminiscent of Grogu. We also talk about the world-building—which I actually enjoyed—specifically the deeper look into Predator clans and their cruel honor systems. However, we have to talk about the cinematography and props; at times, the armor looked more like high-end cosplay than a big-budget sci-fi film, which really pulled me out of the experience. With the constant mentions of Weyland-Yutani, it’s clear that Disney is setting the stage for these two worlds to collide again. But is that what fans actually want if it means the creatures lose their threatening factor? I’m giving this one a 6 or 7 out of 10. It’s entertaining, but it might not be the "Predator" movie you’re expecting.
