Contact me via email ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ A few months ago, I made the decision to delete the YouTube Studio app and log out of Instagram to protect my mental health and stop obsessing over numbers. It was one of the best moves I've made, but recently, I had a massive wake-up call. While logging in to Instagram on my phone to check an important DM regarding my role in the jury for a German advertising award, I found myself sucked into doomscrolling within seconds. It was a terrifying reminder of just how addictive these feeds are designed to be.In today's video, I discuss the "eye-opener" of that experience and why I’m now heavily considering deleting the app entirely and sticking to my laptop for communication. I also talk about the positive impact of replacing "passive consumption" with active hobbies. By using dedicated devices for retro gaming and listening to audiobooks (like John Dies at the End) or old albums from Linkin Park, I’ve managed to quiet the "noise" in my head. Interestingly, staying away from tech-heavy YouTube and podcasts has also cured my "Gear Acquisition Syndrome" (GAS); I no longer feel the urge to upgrade to the latest Samsung Fold or buy a new camera. The goal isn't to get rid of the phone entirely—it's still a vital tool for work and communication—but to reclaim the time lost to mindless scrolling. If you've been feeling overwhelmed by notifications or the constant urge to buy new gear, I highly recommend trying a digital detox. Let me know in the comments: have you ever considered quitting social media for your mental health? ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 00:00 - The Decision to Log Out 01:34 - Instagram vs. YouTube Comments 03:43 - The Doomscrolling Trap 05:25 - How Fast the Habit Returns 06:44 - Detoxing with Retro Games & Audiobooks 07:53 - Curing Gear Acquisition Syndrome 09:01 - Dedicated Devices vs. Smartphones 10:17 - Have You Tried a Digital Detox? ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
