Contact me via email ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ In today’s video, I’m doubling down on why social media—specifically YouTube—is so effective at influencing our buying decisions and fueling Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS). After logging out of Instagram and cutting back on tech-heavy podcasts and YouTube channels like MKBHD or Linus Tech Tips, I noticed a massive shift in my mindset. I no longer feel the constant urge to upgrade my Samsung Fold 5 or buy the latest action camera just because it’s in my feed.I share a recent "relapse" where a simple search for a new motorcycle helmet led me down a rabbit hole of reviews, proving just how addictive these consumption loops are. Even as a creator who reviews bags on a main channel, I recognize that I am sometimes part of the problem. The key, I’ve found, is being extremely mindful of your digital intake and recognizing when a video is creating a "want" rather than a "need".To combat this, I’ve been using dedicated devices like my Kindle and retro gaming handhelds to stay away from the 95% of YouTube consumption that usually happens on my phone. I’ve also swapped tech podcasts for full music albums, like the latest Linkin Park release, which allows me to be an active listener rather than a passive consumer. If you’re feeling the pressure to constantly upgrade your life, this video is for you. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 00:00 - The Gear Acquisition Trap 01:16 - Replacing the Digital Noise 02:11 - Tech Contentment (Fold 5) 02:41 - The Helmet Review Lesson 03:36 - My Role as a Reviewer 05:17 - Mindful Consumption Habits 05:45 - The Power of Dedicated Devices 06:33 - Finding Peace in Music ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
