Overall, the game is amazing and has a strong storyline (0:00). However, coming straight from Chrono Trigger, the experience highlights some major frustrations with classic JRPG mechanics. FF6 vs. Chrono Trigger: The Major Differences (2:13): Random Battles are a Drag (2:13): Unlike Chrono Trigger, where enemies are visible and battles are fluid, FF6 forces you into frequent, randomized battles with a jarring screen-change/loading mechanic (2:46). The Dungeon Problem (3:17): These constant interruptions and screen shifts make it incredibly difficult to memorize where you are in dungeons and complex maps. Grinding is a Necessity (4:16): The frequency is so high it forces constant grinding for levels and money, which can get boring (4:44). What FF6 Gets Right (5:55): Story & Characters (6:00): Despite having a large roster of characters, the game masterfully manages their individual storylines without making the player feel overwhelmed (7:24). This is crucial for a casual gamer like me who plays in short 10-20 minute bursts (8:02) and needs to easily pick the story back up after a long work break. The Mandatory Tool You Need (9:22): The World Map: I learned from Linus Tech Tips that the physical Super Nintendo manual contained the mandatory world map (9:22). The game frequently mentions city names (10:11) without providing any navigational context, meaning you need to look up a PDF of the manual's map to prevent getting hopelessly lost (10:36). Verdict (11:07): If you are going to play both games, I highly recommend playing Final Fantasy VI first and Chrono Trigger second (11:29). The quality of Chrono Trigger's fluid mechanics makes switching to FF6's high-frequency battles quite exhausting. Question: If you've played FF6, did you find the random battle frequency as obnoxious as I did? Let me know in the comments! ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 0:00 - 10-Hour Update on Final Fantasy VI 0:42 - Chrono Trigger is still superior (Top 5 game) 2:13 - The annoyance of randomized battles 3:17 - How screen changes make dungeon memorization difficult 4:16 - Grinding is now a necessity 5:55 - Praising the story and character management 7:45 - Reminder of my "casual gamer" (short break) context 9:22 - Why the physical manual/map is mandatory 11:07 - My final recommendation: Play FF6 before Chrono Trigger 12:29 - Outro and call to action ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
