Contact me via email ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ With the recent wave of Apple March 2026 announcements—including the M5 MacBook Pro, the budget-friendly MacBook Neo, and the iPhone 17e—it’s easier than ever to fall into the trap of Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS). My own YouTube feed has been flooded with reviews for the new Lumix DMS1 microphone and leaks for the upcoming DJI Pocket 4 and Avata 360. In this video, I want to have a real conversation about whether we actually need these new products or if we're just being told our current gear is "broken." I dive into my personal strategy for resisting the urge to buy. Despite being a professional film editor and a reviewer myself, I’ve realized that my refurbished M3 MacBook Pro is still a powerhouse for my work. We often justify new purchases as "business expenses," but from a realistic business perspective, if the tool still works perfectly and brings in money, an upgrade might just be an expensive distraction. I also touch on the "skill issue" vs. "gear issue" debate—especially with cameras like the DJI Pocket 3—where mastering your current tool is often more valuable than spending 1,000 euros on the next model. The most important question to ask yourself is: "If I hadn't seen the ad or the review, would I even feel like my current device is lacking?" Whether it's a Samsung Fold 5 or an older iPhone, most of what we own is still incredibly capable. Let’s talk about being mindful of our spending, avoiding debt for the sake of "better specs," and appreciating the potential of the gear we already have. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 00:00 - The 2026 Gear Flood 01:12 - Breaking the Social Media Urge 02:04 - A Reviewer’s Dilemma 03:02 - Pro Gear: Use What Works 04:37 - Resisting the DJI Pocket 4 05:47 - The "Outdated Gear" Illusion 07:21 - Don't Go Into Debt for Specs 08:23 - Skill Issue vs. Gear Issue 09:17 - What's Tempting You Lately? ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
