I’m moving into stage two of my whiskey room build: the big “whiskey wall” that’s going to hold all the bourbon, whiskey, liquor—everything. This is the fun, creative part for me because it’s basically an IKEA hack built around Billy bookcases. Before any shelving went in, I built a wooden base, then stacked five Billy shelves across and added two height extensions on each one to push everything up toward the ceiling. Once that layout was set, I framed the whole thing in with wood so it’s anchored into the studs and turned into one solid, built-in wall. After a couple months of steady, tedious work, the wall is completely framed and rock solid—seriously, it isn’t going anywhere. The next big step is lighting, and that’s where the time gets eaten up. I’m cutting diffused LED strips to length, using extension wire and little clamp connectors, drilling pass-through holes, and fishing wire up to the next level so the lights stay hidden once trim goes on. The end goal is to paint it all black, and I’m even considering a textured dark wallpaper on the sides to really get that speakeasy whiskey room vibe.
