About This Video

Today I’m at the base of the Red Mountain OHV Trail (6S22) in the San Bernardino National Forest, and I’m running the first half of the trail up to the area where it intersects near Juan Diego Flats. Since moving to Southern California, my goal has been simple: explore what’s right around me first. These aren’t necessarily the most famous trails in the area, but there are a ton of options out here, and I’m working my way through them one by one. Using OnX Offroad, I had this one noted as a 3/10 difficulty, about 3.9 miles long, starting a little over 4,000 feet with roughly 500 feet of elevation gain. The drive was quick and fun—mostly sandy and dirt sections with a few rocky spots mixed in—and the views were awesome even before I hit the halfway point. Up top, there’s signage for a burned area and some marked private property, plus a gate that leads farther up toward the Red Mountain Fire Lookout. I ended up turning around for the day because I was having trouble keeping my phone charged while running both the GoPro and OnX. I’ll be back to finish the trail to the fire lookout in a future run, and I’ll also be dropping down Juan Diego Flats (rated 4/10) in the next video.
