It works, but it’s disruptive because you’re constantly squinting and breaking your flow while recording. In this video, I show you a simple upgrade that makes solo filming way easier and more professional: I use my computer monitor as a live monitor. I’m using a 21-inch screen, but honestly any size—15, 21, 27—will help because it’s all about seeing yourself clearly from a distance. The key is the right cable: an HDMI to micro HDMI (or mini HDMI for some older cameras). Once you plug the micro HDMI into that U-shaped port on your camera and the HDMI into your monitor, you can see yourself big on-screen and quickly confirm framing and clarity without constantly touching the camera.
