About This Video

Every time I set up a new laptop or PC, Microsoft tries to force two things during Windows setup: connect to Wi‑Fi/Ethernet, and then sign in with a Microsoft online account. That’s a problem if you’re building a machine for somebody else, you don’t have an online account ready, or you’re working in a lab or troubleshooting where there’s simply no network available. In this video, I show the quick, step-by-step way I use to get past that “Let’s connect you to a network” screen and finish setup completely offline. Once you hit the network screen, I open Command Prompt using Shift + F10 (or Shift + Fn + F10 on some laptops). Then I type the command OOBE\BYPASSNRO and press Enter. The system restarts, and when you go through setup again, a new option appears: “I don’t have internet.” From there, you choose “Continue with limited setup,” create a local account (name and password), pick your privacy/settings options, and you’re up and running—no internet and no Microsoft online account required.
