Baileys Irish Cream is a Christmas classic — but it turns out it’s also surprisingly easy to make at home. I try making a homemade Irish cream using a popular copycat recipe and Jameson's Irish Whiskey, then blind taste it side by side with the real thing to see how close it gets. Spoiler: it’s way closer than I expected. If I can make this at home with a blender and a few basic ingredients, anyone can. With a little tweaking, this could be a very convincing homemade alternative — and a fun project to try over the holidays. I also touch on a few whisky-based cocktails you can make with Irish cream if you want to put it to good use over Christmas. About This Video

Baileys Irish Cream is one of those Christmas staples that shows up everywhere—bars, households, and a ridiculous number of cocktails. In this video I gave it a crack at home using a popular “copycat Baileys” recipe, because (fun fact) the original branded product only dates back to 1974, and the creators supposedly nailed the recipe in about 45 minutes. If it’s that simple, surely some numbnut like me can pull it off with a blender and a few basic ingredients—so I tested it properly. I walk through the exact ingredient list (heavy cream, sweetened condensed milk, Irish whiskey, cocoa/chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and optional almond extract) and the basic process—plus the one step I accidentally messed up (I blended the whiskey in earlier than recommended). The key takeaway: it still didn’t curdle, and the finished result came out shockingly close to the real thing when I blind tasted it side-by-side with actual Baileys. Mine was just a touch less sweet and a bit thinner, so I share the tweaks I’d make next time (mainly a little more condensed milk, and possibly adjusting coffee/chocolate). I also finish with a few easy Irish cream cocktail ideas to put your homemade bottle to work over the holidays.
