German whisky isn’t something you see every day… but this one might just be a hidden gem. In this video, I review a whisky brought back from Germany by one of our whisky club members. Produced at a small farm distillery, this bottle was all in German — so we initially went in completely blind. What we found was a surprisingly flavoursome whisky that really held its own when enjoyed neat. If you’ve ever wondered whether whisky from outside the usual regions (Scotland, Ireland, the US) is worth your time—this might surprise you. About This Video

German whisky isn’t something you see every day, so when one of my whisky club members brought this bottle back from Germany, I had to get it in a glass. The fun part? The label was all in German, so we went in basically blind. What we found was a surprisingly flavoursome little gem from a family-run farm distillery—Brennerei Singer in Mittelehrenbach (near Nuremberg)—and it absolutely held its own neat, which is exactly how the distillery intends it to be enjoyed. In this review I break down what I learned after emailing the distillery: local barley and wheat, small-batch focus, non-chill filtered, no colour added, and a philosophy built around regional authenticity and honest character. On the nose I get a sweet-but-rustic profile—caramelised fruit that almost hints at sherry at first, then shifts into something more like cherry wood, with green tobacco leaf and that freshly oiled leather vibe. The palate is soft, a touch dry, and coats the mouth, with caramelised fruit, a dark-chocolate oiliness, and a sweeter “chestnut” wood note rather than classic oak. The finish lands in that strong-medium zone: warmth lingers down into the chest, while the sweeter woody/leathery notes fade more gradually. If you like sweetness without the candied sherry-bomb effect, this one’s worth hunting down—if you can get it to Australia.
