In this review, I compare Hellyers Road’s 22 Year Old American Oak Cask – a World Whiskies Awards category winner – with its younger sibling, the 12 Year Old American Oak Cask. Same distillery. Same style. Ten years of extra maturation. But does age really make a difference? This 22 year old is Hellyers Road’s oldest release to date, matured in a single ex-Jack Daniel’s cask for over two decades. With only 80 bottles ever released and priced at $1,450, it’s a rare piece of Tasmanian whisky history. In this video, I explore: • The impact of ageing in Tasmania’s unique climate • How the 12yo and 22yo compare in nose, palate, and finish • Why Australian age statements can’t be directly compared to Scotch • Whether this limited release justifies its price tag This whisky was kindly provided by @HellyersRoadDistillery for review purposes.
