As part of Irish Whiskey Month, I’m exploring the range from one of the most historic distilleries in the world — Bushmills. In this video I compare three of their well-known single malts side by side: đŸ„ƒ Bushmills 10 Year Old đŸ„ƒ Bushmills 16 Year Old đŸ„ƒ Bushmills 21 Year Old Bushmills is the oldest licensed distillery in the world, tracing its origins back to 1608. But how do these three age-stated Irish single malts actually compare in the glass? Is the affordable 10 year old the best everyday dram? Does the 16 year old add enough complexity with its sherry and port cask maturation? And is the 21 year old really worth the premium price? About This Video

If you’re exploring Irish whiskey, you really can’t go past Bushmills—the oldest licensed distillery still running, with that “1608” stamped all over the glass. In this video I line up the Bushmills 10 Year Old, 16 Year Old, and 21 Year Old single malts side by side as part of my Irish Whiskey Month, and I talk through why Irish can feel more delicate than Scotch (and why you sometimes have to go looking for the flavours to really appreciate what’s going on). I break down the specs and the cask makeup for each bottle, then get into what actually matters: what they do in the glass. The 10 is my bang-for-buck pick—light, zesty citrus and honey, but with this surprisingly oily texture and a milk-chocolate coating that hangs around longer than you’d expect at the price. The 16 shifts hard into caramelised fruits, toasted nuts, and that “pudding sauce” sweetness, but I found the finish a bit shorter than the 10 and I’d love to see it at 46–48% ABV. The 21 is the most complex: drier, more cocoa/dark chocolate and vanilla sweetness in a really interesting balance, with a medium, delicate finish—again, I’d happily try it at a higher ABV. My big takeaway: these aren’t just older versions of the same whisky—they’re genuinely different drams with their own purpose.
