We had the pleasure of being invited down to play Space Marine VR: Defenders of Avarax at zero latency in Nottingham. Charging around a room pretending to be a Space Marine melting Tyranids is some of the most fun to be had as a Warhammer fan, how did we get on? Proud and competent servants of the emperor or not so much? About This Video

I headed down to Zero Latency in Nottingham to play Space Marine VR: Defenders of Avarax, and honestly… it’s some of the most fun you can have as a Warhammer fan. This isn’t “stand in one spot and wiggle your wrists” VR either — it’s free-roaming, so you get your briefing, grab your weapon in-headset, and then you’re physically charging around a room with your mates, screaming nonsense and melting Tyranids like you mean it. We went in as a little squad (including Jeff, some great local folks, and one of our Patreon supporters), and the whole thing just clicked immediately. The standout moments for me were the heavy weapons. The plasma gun was absolutely ace — charging it up and watching Tyranids explode was a joyous occasion — and the flamer was a proper “yes, this is why we’re here” moment. There are also these unexpected slow-motion sections where gaunts are streaming at you, and suddenly you’re picking them off with a heavy bolter like you’re in a cinematic. It’s also worth saying: the height/vertigo stuff is real — they warn you for a reason, because you’ll be looking down ridiculous drops. And the pacing is perfect: steady build, then that end-of-level boss sequence, then you pile into the big blue Thunderhawk “Uber” at the end. Not sponsored — we just had a brilliant time, and if you’ve only tried VR at home, you really need to try it like this.
