No Ross this week (he’s off at a 3D printing convention in Germany), so it’s me (Geoff) and Pat having a proper catch-up and dragging the chat back round to the nerdy stuff. We start with the usual “what even is this hobby” energy—3D printers still feel like 22nd-century tech to me, because my brain immediately goes to “can it print rocks for a 32mm base?” rather than the endless real-world uses. We also end up detouring into spectator sports, UFC/boxing tactics, and why some of it is genuinely more technical than people give it credit for… even if it’s still brutal to watch. Then we get into the real reason we set the camera up: Gundam kits and why they’ve suddenly started popping off again for Warhammer hobbyists. I crack open and compare a Real Grade RX-78-2 with the absolutely comical Perfect Grade Unleashed box—internal skeletons, layered armour, transparent parts, individually wrapped sprues, numbered tabs that actually make sense, and even a battery-driven lighting system with colour-changing eyes and effects. It’s peak engineering, and it really highlights how different “building and painting at the same time” feels compared to a typical Games Workshop kit (especially after my recent nightmare building Ork Kommandos). We also touch on the wider hobby buzz—Bandai’s builders competition, and a quick look at the Christmas box situation and rumours doing the rounds.
