It doesn't have a seal that you have to break, and when exposed to air, it does not "cure". I think it's just a petroleum jelly type air & water sealant that does not cure or harden over time. I'm sure it does a great job keeping moisture/air out of the business end of the wire nut, but I don't think it will ever "cure" like silicone would. The wire nut works just like any other wire nut, and is relatively large but tapers down to a fine point so you can use it with wires as small as 20 AWG and as large as 10 AWG. It was easy to use, very little of the sealant came out of the red "finger" guard at the bottom while screwing it only a pair of 12 AWG solid wires, and the connection measured at 0.1 ohms (probably due to oxidation on my end of the wires, and not a poor connection inside the wire nut).
