You solder the center conductor into the tip, and draw the braid into slots of the base and solder them directly to the base (This will probably require a 50-100 watt soldering iron to get the metal parts hot enough quickly enough so the insulation doesn't melt). They claim the tip is gold plated, and the base is nickel coated brass. However, to my eye, the base and size extender appear to be aluminum. The outer "threaded" cover feels more dense and the silver is more shiny. I filed a notch in each and I didn't see any obvious bronze color inside, so I'm not convinced that the material is as claimed. The threading and fit/finish is good and they look like they should work well. A magnet is not attracted to them at all, so whatever the metal is it's not ferrous.
