The top plastic body has a locking connector sealed with an o-ring, and the probes are aluminum and stainless steel. It logs temperature and soil moisture (which it calls humidity) as well as a "total daylight" number for each day. You can connect to it via Bluetooth from 10-30 feet away (so if you move to the room in your house that is closest to the sensor just outside your house, you can view the readings without going outside, but only if the sensor is near the house). The phone app is simple to use, but very basic. It shows a daily graph of temperature and moisture, and a monthly graph of average temp / average moisture, and total daylight. The manual said you could double click on the centigrade temperature to change it to fahrenheit, but I coudn't get that to work for me, so I hope you like your temps in centigrade. You can export the data to an excel spreadsheet (which is saved on your phone/tablet, so you'll have to be able to use a file manage to find the file and send it to your computer -- or open with a spreadsheet app on your phone). The spreadsheet has 3 sheets, one each for temp, moisture, and daylight. Again, nothing fancy, but you can access the data if you want to do more with it. Overall it appears to work well (I haven't tested it against any reference gauges, but it appears to notice when the automated watering system has run, generally tracks the outside temperature, and gives lower values on cloudy days than sunny days).
