The Zenico FM01 is a $7 accessory that elevates a single contact hot shoe flash unit about 3/4" when folded, or 1.5" when unfolded. It friction fits into your camera's hot shoe (it has two small springs on the side providing friction) and a small flash unit slides into it. It's so small that most people would probably assume it was just the bottom of your flash unit until you unfold it. When you need more height, you pull it up and out (it has two hinges so you can use it to tilt your flash up or down a bit as well). The hinges have a lot of friction, so it takes some effort to move them, but once you set them, they won't move on their own. Obviously, it's not needed nor designed for larger flash units that easily clear your lens themselves, but it's a great addition if you are using a mini-flash but want to use a longer telephoto or wide angle lens at the same time.
