Maximum jaw size is 0.9 inches (so 3/4" or 7/8" nut/bolt maximum). It has a quick release button that lets you adjust the jaw width (and you only get about 1/4" of travel in the jaws, so you need to adjust it to fit different sized nuts). I found that you could adjust it one handed if you started with it at the maximum size, placed the bottom jaw on the nut, then used your thumb to press the blue adjustment button down while at the same time using your forefinger to slide the top jaw down to clamp the nut. Compared to an adjustable/English wrench the jaws have a more solid grip on the nut head (they tighten as you squeeze the handles of the pliers). It's made of steel (mine was painted black) and had some machine oil on the mechanism (that gets on your hands). The coating is supposed to protect it from rust, but I wouldn't leave them out in the rain as a magnet sticks to them very hard, so I'm relatively sure that the steel alloy isn't natively stainless.
