I threw in some corn cobs and banana peels and while it initially got stuck on the corn cobs, after it heated up a bit they were fully smashed into small flakes. After about 4 hours it had converted the organic waste into something that looked like fiberous oatmeal or granola, ready to be spread in the garden. It has a filter box that you fill with a bag of activated carbon pellets, and a fan exhausts all of the air out through the filer, which removes all of the smell. When it was working, I couldn't smell the banana peels at all unless I lifted the magnetically sealed lid. I also appreciate the fact that you just unscrew the filter lid and fill it up with any generic activated carbon pellets, you are not locked into a proprietary filter system. The device takes about 5 watts when running the fan, about 25 watts when the blade are turning, and about 460 watts to run the heater. Over the course of a 4 hour run it took almost half a kWh of power, or about 8-10 cents of electricity. So while it does draw power, it's not an extremely large amount. It worked exactly as advertised, and exceeded my expectations with the corn cobs.
