The clamp is metal with rubber gripping pads and can be locked on very tightly. It has a double ended adjustable arm that is also metal, allowing you to position the tablet holding clamp in just about any orientation and lock it down. The tablet holder has two spring loaded rubber padded jaws that will grip a cell phone (vertically) or tablet (horizontally) sized between 5.5" to 9.5". (This will easily accommodate a 10" diagonal tablet with chunky case, and shouldn't have a problem with 13" tablets.) I'm happy with the clamp, it holds on to the tablet very well, and the adjustable arm can be locked in place so even if you go over bumps in your cart I think you'd start having problems with your suspension before your tablet started to have issues. Of course, you don't have to use it with a golf cart, as it will grip rails on beds or headboards, fences, lamps, etc.
