You push the "hold" button and it takes a reading, displaying LUX and CT numerically, or a graph of the color temperature. The only other mode is a recording log where you can save multiple readings in a list and then review them on-screen. [The one option in the "settings" page allows you to adjust the screen backlight.] It's basic, but super easy to use. The manual makes a big deal about how it won't work correctly with anything other than a bi-color LED light, so I kind of suspect that instead of having a full color temperature sensor, it just has two sensors at the primary color temperatures of cool and warm LEDs and measures their relative power. (So I don't know how much to trust the "full color" graph it displays, but the kelvin reading on my bi color led light was correct.) The CT number (in kelvin) matched up close enough to a different sensor I have, and went up and down appropriately when tested with a bi-color LED light. The lux meter worked correctly in sunlight as well as the LED light. It is a little bit "chunky" (more so than I think it really needs to be) so it won't win any design awards, but it's easy to hold onto and you are not likely to fat finger fumble it out of your hand. It's powered by two (provided) AAA batteries. So if you need a generic LUX meter, or a color meter to balance bi-color LED lights, it works well and doesn't break the bank. If you need color temperature measurements for things other than bi-color LED lights, or that perfectly match up with a different calibrated meter, it may disappoint you.
